Multi-million dollar Meggitt bizjet deal with Hawker Beechcraft

Akron, Ohio – Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems (MABS) and Hawker Beechcraft have entered into a long term partnering agreement for main wheels and carbon brakes for the new Premier II aircraft.

Lightweight brakes boost performance

Scheduled to enter service in 2010, the high performance Premier II’s range and payload will be enhanced by Meggitt’s light weight, long life 7000 series Nucarb® heatsink material. Combined with innovative packaging technology, Meggitt has optimised the braking equipment’s performance and capability within the existing envelope. Meggitt’s brakes for the Premier II aircraft will weigh less and last longer than the competitor’s steel brakes on the Premier 1/IA, helping to reduce engine fuel burn and emissions, extend range and lower operating and maintenance costs.

Agreement expands relationship

The partnering agreement extends Meggitt’s business relationship with Hawker Beechcraft from the Beechcraft King Air 200 and 350 to the entire Hawker family—the Hawker 400XP light jet, Hawker 750 and 900 mid-size jets and the super mid-size Hawker 4000—all of which are equipped with Meggitt wheels and brakes. Meggitt also supplies the brake control systems for the Hawker 750, 900 and Hawker 4000.

A carbon first in this category

Ken Schwartz, MABS’ President commented: “The relationship between Meggitt and Hawker Beechcraft dates back to the origins of Beech Aircraft and I’m proud that our companies’ longstanding relationship now includes the Premier II. The Premier II will be the first business jet in this entry-level light jet category to be equipped with carbon brakes and existing Premier operators can also benefit from them.”
