Meggitt wins Future Lynx brake control system

Meggitt PLC, a leading international company employing over 8,000 people specialising in aerospace equipment, sensing and defence systems, today announces that Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems (MABS) has received a multi-million pound follow on contract from AgustaWestland to develop and produce the differential brake control system components for the Future Lynx helicopter, which is based on a new, upgraded version of the Lynx helicopter.

This latest contract follows on from the award of the original contract in March 2007 for the wheels and brakes for the Future Lynx platform and further strengthens the relationship between Meggitt & AgustaWestland (Yeovil).

The Future Lynx is designed to meet the requirements for the UK Army's Battlefield Reconnaissance Helicopter (BRH) and the Royal Navy's Surface Combatant Maritime Rotorcraft (SCMR).

The first flight of the Future Lynx helicopter will take place in late 2009 with first deliveries starting in 2011. Future Lynx will enter operational service in 2013 with the UK Army and 2014 with the Royal Navy and it is planned to remain in service for 30 years.

MABS' current focus is on completion of the detail design of all equipment leading up to the start of production and qualification testing in early 2009.
